The BGLC is now accepting applications for the 2024 Tertiary Education Grant.
The BGLC Tertiary Education Grant provides assistance with tuition fees exclusively to full-time 3rd and 4 year undergraduate students currently enrolled at an accredited tertiary institution in Jamaica.
ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION CRITERIA:
- Jamaican citizen.
- Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Fulltime 3rd year or 4th year Undergraduate Student confirmed to attend or currently enrolled at an accredited local tertiary institution.
- Complete the Online Assessment and Application Form and provide supporting documents to substantiate the application
- The 2024 application process will include
the taking of a mandatory online assessment of 20 questions. The assessment is
a made up of multiple-choice questions primarily and all questions are taken
from the BGLC website.
Have your ID, transcript (dated no earlier than December 2023) ready to upload before starting the online assessment and application.
- This assessment is designed to test your knowledge of the material available on the BGLC website. It consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, and you will have 20 minutes to complete the quiz. To pass the assessment, you must score at least 80%. If you do not achieve the pass mark, you will have two additional attempts to pass.
The Reference must have known the applicant for at least 1 year and may be from any of the following categories:
- Justice of the Peace; Officer of a Government Ministry or Agency (SEG 1 & above)Consular Officer; Attorney-at-law; Member of Parliament; Parish Councillor; Bank Manager (CEO, Branch Manager); Credit Union Manager (CEO, Branch Manger); Clerk of Courts; Marriage Officer; Army Officer (Major & above); Dental Surgeon; Doctor of Medicine; Police Officer (Gazetted Ranks); Veterinarian; Principal (Primary, Secondary & Tertiary Educational Institutions.
- 3rd and 4th year students:
1.Transcript- latest available reflecting grades dated no earlier than December 2023

- 600-word Essay – You have been invited to make a presentation on Responsible Gambling at an upcoming conference on Responsible Gambling in Jamaica. The Government of Jamaica, RISE Life Management and the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission will be attending. Prepare a speech which addresses at least one (1) social impact of gambling and one (1) economic impact of gambling, and provide two (2) recommendations to boost responsible gambling messages locally.
Should I submit original documents upon submission of the application so that they can be processed?
No. Please scan and upload certified copies of your documents. A certified copy of a document is one where a JP has viewed the copy and the original and has stamped and endorsed the copy as a true copy of the original document seen. Only certified copies of documents should be submitted with the application.
Yes. An application is incomplete if all documents are not uploaded by the deadline date.
You will need to have the transcript and all other documents at hand to upload when you start your application online.
An official transcript is the University's certified statement of your academic record. The official “paper transcript” is printed on security-sensitive paper and contains the University seal and signature of the University Registrar.
